OpenMetadata
OpenMetadata is a unified metadata platform for data discovery, data observability, and data governance powered by a central metadata repository, in-depth column level lineage, and seamless team collaboration.
- Discover and catalog data assets across warehouses and lakes
- Trace column-level lineage from source to dashboard
- Monitor data quality and trigger alerts on anomalies
Data governance failures cost enterprises an average $12.9M/year — OpenMetadata centralizes discovery, lineage, and quality monitoring in one platform, giving AI agents the metadata layer they need to operate safely on enterprise data.
Data engineering and analytics teams that need unified metadata management, column-level lineage tracking, and data quality monitoring across their stack.

2026-05-10: OpenMetadata earns its place as a metadata catalog when you need column-level lineage across a mixed stack—dbt, Airflow, Snowflake, and the like—without paying for Alation or Collibra. The connectors work, but keeping them healthy is a real maintenance burden, and the platform only pays off if analysts and engineers actually tag and use it; low adoption turns it into an expensive index nobody trusts. Tune Elasticsearch early if your asset count is climbing toward five figures, or the UI becomes a friction point that kills adoption. Worth the investment for teams with a dedicated data engineer to own it; a poor fit if you're hoping it runs itself.
